Matahina V6 Outrigger

We are incredibly grateful to ARE for their generous contribution to the Kelowna Paddle Centre. Support from ARE not only enriches the experiences we can offer but also underscores the spirit of collaboration and commitment to the growth of water sports. We proudly recognize their invaluable assistance as a heartfelt “Thank You” for helping us to foster a love for paddling in the hearts of the next generation.

Matahina are built by ARE – the name means “eyes of the goddess” in Tahitian. These boats were first raced in Tahiti in 2021, where they dominated the field. They are now used by most of the top paddling teams in the world – for example, Shell Va’a.

Matahinas are heavier than Hawaiian Unlimiteds (145lbs), with the Matahina Club Model coming in at 240lbs and the Matahina Performance Model at 210lbs. They also have a different profile, having higher gunwales and cockpits. Together, these differences mean that these boats require careful handling during transport, launching and paddle changes.

Matahinas have again been selected as the V6 for the 2024 IVF World Sprint Championships in Hilo, Hawaii.
