Adult Classes Offered at KPC
RECREATIONAL CLASSES
These classes offer a more relaxed pace so that paddlers can socialize, enjoy the view, and improve their skills while still getting some decent exercise. We typically paddle 3-6km, depending on the style of paddling. Recreational classes are available for:
- Outrigger Canoe
- Kayak (& Surfski for Accredited Paddlers)
- Paddleboard

LEARN-TO (L2) & ACCREDITATION CLASSES
Beginner paddlers and new members can learn how to safely paddle and care for the different boats and boards available at KPC. Classes will cover getting into and out of the water safely, paddling form & technique, how to steer, how to remount in deep water, and proper care for the equipment.
Completing an accreditation class or test is required for members to use most KPC boats or boards, or to venture far from the centre with club equipment.
Learn-To or Accreditation Classes are available for:
- Solo outrigger canoes (OC1)
- Surfski
- Paddleboard.

FITNESS CLASSES
We offer a range of fitness classes for different types of paddling. These classes are designed to improve or maintain your speed, stamina, and strength. Options include:
OC6 Fitness – We offer this class multiple times a week. Features a paced workout as part of an OC6 crew. We typically paddle 6-12km depending on the style and intensity of the session.
The Beat Down – An intense one-hour session for solo paddlers led by Greg Redman. Be sure to book a boat for this popular program.
Paddle Boot Camp – Start your Monday with a great workout that offers something new each week. Includes different paddling styles.
Active R&R – Get ready for the weekend with a mellower workout to help your body recover. Includes different paddling styles.
OC6 Distance – An extended Saturday morning program that lets us tour more of the lake. Crews will be coordinated to match level and desired intensity then we’ll head out for a 12-20km trip with a stop to rest and socialize along the way.

RACING & PERFORMANCE CLASSES
We offer a number of weekly classes for those wanting to refine their technique and learn the skills & tactics required for racing. Our coaches may also be available to book classes on demand.
Outrigger Academy – A 6-week intermediate program for paddlers interested in outrigger canoe racing. Paddlers will be able to build their skills and technique in a fun, focused, and low-pressure environment. Programs will adapt for the skill level and goals of those registered.
OC6 Train to Race (T2R) – A weekly class for competitive paddlers wanting to practice and improve their skills for racing. This class runs all season with a focus on paddlers’ needs and goals for upcoming OC6 races.
High Performance Classes – On Sunday mornings Tamlyn Bohm often leads two classes focused on OC/V1, surfski, OC6, or paddleboard. Availability varies week to week.
Tamlyn is also available for private lessons and classes on demand.
